Maldives Metrological Service (Met Office) states severe weather conditions will prevail over the next 24 hours as Maldives experience heavy rain, strong winds and rough seas amid the ongoing wet season.
Met Office on Monday said no improvements to weather can be expected in central and northern Maldives, forecasting winds up to 25 to 30 miles per hour and up to 50 miles per hour during rain showers. They also forecast extremely rough seas.
Earlier, a yellow alert was issued for regions – from the northernmost Haa Alifu Atoll to Thaa Atoll in the central – which has now been extended till 18:30pm this evening.
A white alert which was issued from southern central Laamu Atoll to all the way down to Addu City in the southernmost, warning of winds up to 22 to 27 miles per hour and rough seas, has also been extended to 18:30pm this evening.
Authorities have urged the public to exercise caution as necessary over the weather conditions, especially seafarers.
