Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure has urged from all relevant stakeholders to assure and strengthen safety measures of construction sites amid strong winds and gusts.
Earlier on Friday, a surrounding fence of a building was ripped off during heavy rain and strong winds as well.
The ministry in a statement on Sunday, urged construction companies and contractors to assure stringent safety measures in construction sites amid the ongoing southwest monsoon (wet season).
The ministry added lack of safety measures could result in severe accidents with devastating consequences.
Besides urging construction companies to increase safety of construction sites, the ministry urged to bolster lighter construction materials and equipment at work sites to prevent it from flying off during storms.
Several contractors and construction site workers have been found violating safety regulations, with cases related to it rampantly increasing more recently.
On Saturday, Male' City Council had fined construction workers in Male' City with MVR 500 for working without proper safety measures.
Additionally, the ministry urged to take preventive measures against mosquitoes and rid the work site from potential surfaces that could provide a breeding venue for them.
