President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has sent back the bill proposing amendments to the Land Act which would mandate the government to expedite the handover of land plots within the stipulated time.

The President’s Office, on Thursday night, said the bill was sent to back to the parliament by the President, requesting to reconsider the provisions of the amendment. Notably, the 19th parliamentary assembly has concluded its electoral term at the time the amendment has been sent back.

Henceforth, it is the incoming 20th parliamentary assembly which will decide on the matter.

The bill, submitted by MDP’s then-South Galolhu MP Meekail Naseem, was passed on April 29th. As per the bill, the government would need to hand over land to recipients within three months from the date the permanent list of recipients is publicized.
