Agil's murder case: one suspect acquitted

The suspects in Agil's murder case--

One of the suspects charged with the murder of Ibrahim Agil, from Kokaa, G.Dh. Faresmaathoda, has been acquitted at the Criminal Court on Wednesday.

Agil was stabbed to death around 19:30hrs on August 31st, 2018.

A group of three individuals attacked Agil, on the evening he traveled back to Male' City from V. Fulidhoo. He was pronounced dead around 20:59hrs amid treatment.

State prosecution pressed charges against three suspects, which include;

  • Hamdhoon Hamzath, Hiyaa, L. Fonadhoo - on the charge of first degree murder using a sharp object
  • Ali Mijuwad Malik Ibrahim, Suveyhuheenaage, S. Hithadhoo - on the charge of first degree murder using a sharp object
  • Ibrahim Wisham, Snow Bird, H.A. Dhidhdhoo - on the charge of first degree murder using a sharp object

Criminal Court on Wednesday held, the charges against Wisham could not be sufficiently proven at the court.

Meanwhile, the court has not delivered verdict on the other two suspects.

Not long after Agil landed in Male' City, he was stabbed near the MMA jetty by three individuals --

Prosecutor General's Office in response to Criminal Court's Wednesday verdict, said it would review the documents related to the trial proceedings once the court hands it over. The office added it would make a decision about seeking a High Court appeal on the case after reviewal.

Trials of Hamdhoon Hamzath and Ali Mijuwad Malik Ibrahim are still ongoing at Criminal Court, which are currently at the stage of sentencing.
