Police rescue foreigner held against will at Male’ home

Maldives Police Service has rescued a foreigner who was being held against his will at a home in Male’.

Police, in a message to the media on Thursday, said they received a report of a person being held against their will in a Male’ home at approximately 6:00am this morning.

Upon receiving the report, officers went to the scene, forcibly opened the door, and rescued the victim.

The victim was identified by the Police as a Bangladeshi man.

Although the victim had no external injuries, he was taken Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) for a health assessment.

The case is under further investigation by the Police. While hostage situations are uncommon in the Maldives, the Police are not treating this incident as a hostage case
