Minister of Tourism Ibrahim Faisal has promised to enhance senior positions for Maldivians in tourism industry by amending the Tourism Act.
Minister Faisal made the remarks on PSM News program "Raajje Miadhu" on Tuesday evening.
Faisal said it is not effective to amend the laws or regulations each time a policy is implemented, but assured that if required, the government intends to amend the Maldives Tourism Act to ensure locals receive senior designations in the tourism industry.
"We will amend the Tourism Act, if need be, to allow Maldivians to secure top tourism designations such as general managers or HR department heads," Faisal commented.
"I have met individuals who had worked 20 to 25 years to achieve promotions as Sales Directors, which are influential positions. This is proof, that anyone who puts the proper effort can achieve success."
The minister said Maldivians taking senior and leadership positions in the tourism industry is not only his, but the entire Maldivian government's vision; especially President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's.
"As such, if we are required to amend the law to achieve it, we intend to, and enhance scholarship opportunities for aspiring students to help them become the leaders of the future," Faisal said.
He further affirmed seeking counsel and assistance from relevant stakeholders and experts to enhance career opportunities for Maldivians in the industry.
