Weather worsens in central Maldives, yellow alert out

Weather has worsened in central parts of the Maldives, with the Maldives Meteorological Center (MET Office) issuing a yellow alert to the region.

The office issued the yellow alert from AA. Atoll to Thaa atoll on Wednesday evening, from 21:30hrs until 01:30hrs of Thursday early morning.

The region was expected to observe heavy rainfall with gusts up to 40 miles per hour.

Speaking with 'Sun', MET Office confirmed that gusts and wind speeds are expected to pick up though the seas will not be rough beyond the usual.

The office further added that the current rainfall is part of the transition from the Northeast monsoon to Southwest monsoon.

Maldives has been experiencing humid conditions on days without rain, while on the days rainfall is observed, it is often accompanied by thunder.

During Wednesday's rainfall, several roads of Male' City were flooded, which were drained by MNDF.
