Suspected sorcerer from Funadhoo gets 15-day remand

The elderly man who was arrested on suspicions of attempting to cast black magic on Mohamed Mamdooh (Manday) who won the Funadhoo seat in April’s parliamentary election has been remanded in custody for 15 days.

The 60-year-old man was arrested from Sh. Funadhoo sometime last night on suspicion of sorcery. He was brought before Funadhoo Magistrate Court for a remand hearing in which the court remanded him in police custody for 15 days.

A local who spoke to Sun from Funadhoo said the man had cast black magic on large trees across various parts of the island.

According to the local, his arrest triggered Funadhoo residents. They took to the streets of the island to express their anger against the man.

In this regard, many residents of the island had protested in front of Funadhoo Magistrate Court when he was brought for the remand hearing. While protests still continue; the residents are calling for just punishment against the man.

Photos of various items presumably used by the man to perform black magic are presently viral on social media.

Manday won the Funadhoo constituency seat with a landslide of 1,110 votes against his closest competitor, MDP’s candidate and former MP Ilham Ahmed.
