Yellow alert for torrential rain over large part of Maldives

Maldives Meteorological Service has issued yellow alert for torrential rain and thunderstorms over a large part of Maldives.

The national weather agency issued two separate yellow alerts on Sunday, one for the area from HA. Atoll to V. Atoll, and another for the area from GA. Atoll to Addu City.

The first one is in place until 09:30 pm, while the latter is in place until 10:30 pm.

Both warn of torrential rain and thunderstorms.

Winds will blow from west to northwesterly at 8 to 18 miles per hour, with gusts of 35 miles per hour during showers

Seas are expected to be moderate, becoming rough during showers.

The warm weather currently being experienced in Maldives is being sporadically broken by rain. The Maldivian capital Male’, experienced heavy rain on Sunday, resulting in flooding.

Soldiers have been deployed to drain the flood water.
