President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has urged ruling PNC's newly elected parliamentary members to remain vigil 24 hours.

While speaking at the celebratory event held on Monday evening to mark PNC's super majority win at the parliamentary election on Sunday, President Muizzu urged to let go of ideological dissent and unite for the public benefit.

He further said the international community, and Maldivians with other hidden agendas, have now learned the actual vision of the Maldivian people for the country.

"The international community has now learned Maldivians want autonomy in deciding their own matters," President Muizzu said.

While addressing the newly elected lawmakers, cabinet ministers, and senior officials of state-owned enterprises (SOEs), President Muizzu requested to take matters more seriously going forward. He claimed the public officials will not sleep on their duties and responsibilities to serve the citizens.

"Now, we will witness progress in the country. I would like to urge our cabinet ministers, SOE heads and parliamentary members to remain vigil 24 hours, the last five months were nothing!" President Muizzu added.

At Monday evening's event, President called his allies to rekindle the spirit to commit towards the country's progress. He also promised to fulfill the pledges made during the presidential and parliamentary elections.

He once again reiterated to provide affordable housing for all, strengthen the economy, and achieve urban development as per public needs across the country.

The president further assured to implement the sustainable development policy accordingly.

He also said the autonomous decision-making for national development will be acknowledged by the international community as well, and every foreign nation that respects Maldivian government's decision will be treated fairly.

"I want to prioritize action over words. Hopefully, we will continue to proceed forward with the support of the beloved public," President Muizzu said.

Results from the parliamentary election indicate ruling PNC has secured 69 seats while the main opposition, MDP had secured just 12 seats.

Surprisingly, both former President Mohamed Nasheed-led The Democrats, and Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom endorsed candidates, did not secure a single seat in the 20th parliament assembly.
