PNF endorses MDP’s candidate for South Fuvahmulah constituency

Nazra Naseem, who is contesting for South Fuvahmulah constituency in Sunday’s parliamentary election on main opposition MDP’s ticket.

The new political party headed by former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom, People’s National Front (PNF) has endorsed former youth minister Ahmed Mahloof’s wife, Nazra Naseem, who is contesting for South Fuvahmulah constituency in Sunday’s parliamentary election on main opposition MDP’s ticket.

Speaking with Sun, PNF’s Secretary General, former science minister Mohamed Maleeh Jamaal said the party’s stand concerning South Fuvahmulah constituency, similar to all other constituencies, is “a way other than President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu”.

“There is no PNF candidate for South Fuvahmulah constituency. Our support, in the first phase, has been for our candidate from PNC. But that candidate had become pro-government. Our support is not with the candidate anymore because they are competing against us,” he said.

Ibrahim Hussain (Ibbe) is contesting for the South Fuvahmulah constituency on behalf of PPM-PNC.

Earlier today, MDP endorsed Mohamed Sharafuddheen, the candidate contesting for North Fuvahmulah constituency in the parliamentary election that is backed by Yameen.

PNF, which received the green light from the Elections Commission (EC) to form the party on November 29th, held its inaugural congress last week.

As the party had not been formed nearing the deadline to file candidacy for the parliamentary election – candidates contesting on behalf of the party filed their candidacy as independent candidates.

Polling stations will be open from 8:00am to 5:30pm on Sunday.
