Govt contracts Chinese company for maritime hub project in Laamu

Maldives government has contracted China's CAMC Engineering for the development of an integrated maritime hub in Laamu atoll on Thursday evening.

Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muththalib signed the agreement on behalf of the Maldives government while CAMC Engineering's General Manager Lee Wei Wei signed on behalf of the contractor.

The integrated maritime hub project will be carried out under six components, which include;

  • Offshore bunkering
  • Cruise terminal
  • Super-Yacht marina
  • Eco-resort
  • Food storage facility
  • Transshipment port

At the signing event, Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) gave a presentation, which highlighted the cruise terminal will facilitate services of Maldives Customs and Maldives Immigration to guests.

MPL said the eco-resort will be developed in between L. Gaadhoo and Fonadhoo, and the super-yacht marina will adhere to international standards in rendering secure services.

The company assured project's economic benefit for the entire populace of Laamu atoll.

It also noted this was the company's first step towards maritime and integrated concept.
