Ice plants to be built in 11 additional islands

Practical works are set to begin soon on the construction of ice plants in 11 additional islands – part of efforts to improve fishermen’s access to ice to preserve the freshness of their catch.

According to a statement issued by the Fisheries Ministry on Thursday, the additional ice plants will be built in; HA. Dhidhdhoo, HDh. Kulhudhuffushi, Sh. Funadhoo, Sh. Komandoo, Lh. Naifaru, AA. Rasdhoo, A. Veyvah, Dh. Bandidhoo, Dh. Meedhoo, HA. Ihavandhoo, and GDh. Rathafandhoo.

The construction of five ice plants is funded by the Saudi Fund for Development, while the construction of the remaining six ice plants will be covered by the government.

The ice plants will be developed by the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO).
