Chinese arrivals exceed 71k, Maldives welcomes over 650k tourists

Maldives has welcomed over 650,000 tourists by April 08th, 2024, reports the Ministry of Tourism.

According to the ministry in its latest report, tourist arrivals by the review date reached a total of 650,404, registering a 13.6% increase compared to the corresponding period last year, during which arrivals stood at 572,748.

As for arrivals exclusively in April, from April 01st to 08th, Maldives has welcomed 46,400 travelers, which is a 5% decline compared to the same period last year, during which arrivals stood at 48,820.

China is still dominating the top 10 tourist markets, with over 71,000 arrivals so far in 2024. Russia maintains its second rank, now with over 65,000 arrivals while UK has moved up the rankings to third spot with over 65,000 arrivals as well.

The total operational bed capacity of all tourist properties in the Maldives is now 62,206; which includes 43,192 combined beds from tourist resorts, 14,163 beds from guesthouses, 2016 beds from hotels, and 2,835 beds from safari vessels.

With tourist arrivals observing notable increase in 2024, Maldives Association of Yacht Agents (MAYA) earlier in April announced the arrival of the eighth cruise liner to the Maldives bringing over 2,000 tourists as well.

The Maldives government anticipates arrival of 2 million tourists in 2024, which it said could be achieved if the Chinese tourist market maintains its momentum.
