Pres listens to upset citizen's complaints on road

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu was confronted by an angry citizen on Saturday afternoon during a door-to-door campaign activity; the individual voiced several complaints to the Maldives head of state who maintained a calm demeanor while concentrating on the citizen's pleas--

A member of the public on Saturday, stopped President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's campaign proceedings at Male' City to present a list of complaints.

President Muizzu had accompanied the ruling party's candidate contending for Central-Henveiru seat, Hassan Nasih on Saturday afternoon.

During his door-to-door campaign in the district, a female citizen had stepped up to President Muizzu with a placard.

Although the individual continued to voice her frustrations, President Muizzu maintained his calm composture throughout, and did not make any instructions to his security officials to interrupt her.

The individual's primary concern was Hassan Shiyam being disqualified to contest for Central-Henveiru.

Supreme Court on last Thursday, disqualified Shiyam's candidacy, who was running for the seat independently.

The individual claimed Shiyam played a crucial role in securing votes for Muizzu in the presidential election, while expressing frustration that he opted to endorse Nasih, a recent MDP resignee, instead of Shiyam.

The woman further alleged President Muizzu sent a letter to the ruling PNC to disqualify Shiyam from the party's primary, and his name was removed from the voters' list while the voting has drawn near.

President Muizzu however, immediately denied the allegations.

"We elected you with a lot of compassion and love, but your treatment towards Shiyam, contesting for our constituency is unkind," she said.

Generally, citizens are never granted the opportunity to come to close proximity of the head of state during his various campaign visits. However, this is the second such instance where President Muizzu listened to the complaints of a confrontational citizen.

During his presidential campaign, Muizzu experienced similar instances during various campaign visits to local islands.
