China signs agreement to provide lab equipment to 17 health centers

Maldives and China have signed a letter of exchange on a grant to procure laboratory equipment for health centers in 17 islands.

The agreement was signed by Maldivian Health Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel and Chinese Ambassador Wang Lixin in a ceremony held at the Health Ministry headquarters in Male’ on Thursday.

According to the Health Ministry, China has agreed to provide grant assistance to procure lab equipment for total 72 health centers over the course of five years.

Thursday’s agreement will facilitate the provision of lab equipment to 17 health centers.

Health Ministry said the assistance will alleviate difficulties with lack of laboratory services at some of the islands, and improve access to medical care across the Maldives.
