Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) to develop infrastructure in Hulhumale’ Phase III.
The agreement, which HDC said would bring in a “new era of development” was signed on Tuesday.
According to HDC, the MOU will redefine infrastructure in Hulhumale’ with state-of-the art developments.
The MOU covers Hulhumale’ Phase III’s new power grid, a GPON network (Gigabit Passive Optical Network), and an enhanced road network including fire safety, water and sewerage.

The HDC did not say how much the project would cost.
Founded in 1978, CMEC is China’s first large engineering and trade company. It has previously conducted major construction projects in Maldives, including housing units in Hulhumale’ under former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s social housing scheme, and the Vinares housing units in Hulhumale’ Phase II.
