Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) President Abdulla Shahid has criticized present government claiming it was constantly disregarding the public's pleas.
Amid the ongoing campaign visits, Shahid said in a video message during his trip to Meemu atoll Raiymandhoo, that the current administration has ceased developmental projects initiated during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's government.
Shahid said 90% of the water and sewerage project in Raiymandhoo, has already been completed with powerhouse development project nearing conclusion. He added several other projects launched during the preceding government were all close to completion, but have been ceased by the new administration.
"The current government has stopped all developmental projects without considering the size of and population in these islands. All of the initiatives of this island too, have been stopped," Shahid said.
The MDP President also said Solih's administration spent MVR 1.7 billion on developmental projects during the first three months of 2023, but the current administration has spent only MVR 300 million during the corresponding period this year.
"The developmental projects across the country are stalled, and the equipment brought for them are slowly decaying away. The government is turning a blind eye of the public's needs," Shahid added.
