President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Wednesday, vowed to develop a better quality hospital in Meemu atoll Dhiggaru, aligned with its locals' wishes.

Dr. Muizzu made this promise while speaking with the locals of Dhiggaru.

His visit to Dhiggaru is part of the ongoing tour to the atolls, in which the president is accompanied by a high-level government delegation.

While the president has promised a top quality hospital for Dhiggaru, the island currently has a health center, which lacks the equipment to provide sufficient medical services.

Speaking about the importance of a hospital for the island, Dhiggaru island council's president Ahmed Nishan had highlighted the difficulties faced by the locals right now.

Nishan also emphasized the lack of a banking facility in the island, lack proper basic services, and housing issues.

In response, President Dr. Muizzu promised to fulfill the pleas of Dhiggaru locals, and facilitate necessary urban development initiatives.

The president next highlighted that the jurisdiction of neighboring uninhabited islands have been extended to the closest island council, aimed at boosting the economy, create job opportunities and new small to medium enterprises. Dr. Muizzu assured he will not control council authorities, and ensure support in granting them economic autonomy.

Dhiggaru council is the 136th council authority Dr. Muizzu has met during his ongoing visits to local atolls.
