Health Protection Agency (HPA) of the Maldives has cautioned the public over the recent surge in diarrhea and nausea cases.
HPA on Tuesday, March 05, 2024 confirmed via X a total of 674 cases of diarrhea were reported from February 4 to 10. From February 11 to 17 another 547 cases were reported while from February 18 to 24 an additional 965 cases were reported.
Statistics further confirmed 889 causes related to nausea reported from February 25 to Saturday, last week.
HPA has cautioned the public to take preventive measures during public gatherings following the recent surge in the cases. The authority had instructed to exercise caution especially in the preparation and exchange of food.
The authority further advised to seek medical treatment or consultation if patients experience nausea, dizziness, extensive throat pain, fatigue, and reduction in fluid intake.
HPA also advised the public to maintain proper hygiene and wash hands reguarly, especially before and after food preparation, disposal of waste material, or after coming into direct contact with another person.
While diarrhea and nausea cases have been on the rise, HPA reported that cases of chickenpox had increased during February as well.
