Hassan Latheef, the leader of opposition Democrats, has submitted an emergency motion, urging the Parliament to hold regular sittings.

In his motion, submitted on February 28, the West Henveiru MP noted that Article 47 and Article 25 of the Parliament’s Standing Orders dictates how and when sittings must be held.

He said that the sittings had been halted, which he said was a huge obstruction to the interests of the state and the general population.

Hassan Latheef said the Parliament had numerous important works pending, adding that the halt to sittings was also hindering efforts to hold the government accountable.

He urged the Parliament to hold sittings as required.

The motion comes after the Parliament held only one sitting last week.
