President Muizzu: Maldives-Sri Lanka relations based upon mutual respect

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu states Maldives and Sri Lanka’s long history of friendship is based upon mutual respect and shared values.

He made the remark in separate messages to President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena Sri Lanka on the occasion of the nation’s 76th Independence Day.

In his messages, he conveyed greetings and extended his heartfelt felicitations on the 76th Independence Day of Sri Lanka.

He commended Sri Lanka for reaching this significant milestone and conveyed good wishes from the Government and the people of the Maldives to the Government and the people of Sri Lanka.

He also underscored the Maldives and Sri Lanka's long history of friendship, mutual respect, shared values, and commitment to maintaining regional stability.

Concluding the messages, President Muizzu expressed hope for further strengthening the friendly relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka marks February 4th as its Independence Day to commemorate the country’s political independence from British rule in 1948.
