Discussions held on implementing agreements executed with China

Discussions were held on Monday on implementing the agreements executed between Maldives and China during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s official visit to China earlier this month.

The discussions took place during a meeting held between President Muizzu and Vice Minister of the International Department of the Chinese Communist Party Sun Haiyan at the President’s Office, who is currently undertaking an official visit to the Maldives.

President Muizzu traveled on his first-ever state visit overseas to China at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping.

A total of 20 agreements were executed between the two nations during this visit including one pertaining to action plan between the governments of tow nations to build a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

As per the President’s Office, Monday’s meeting focused on exploring ways to promptly implement agreements.

During the meeting, Vice Minister Sun conveyed that all relevant authorities are eager to collaborate with their Maldivian counterparts under the leadership of President Xi. She also expressed interest in strengthening strategic bilateral relations and offering training possibilities for Maldivians in various fields.

President Muizzu expressed his gratitude to China for the training opportunities and other avenues of support for Maldivians. 

Both the President and the Vice Minister also reviewed the recent success of direct flights between the Maldives and China and the possibility of extending direct flights from several Chinese cities to the Maldives. They also discussed improving city-to-city relations between the Maldives and China and deliberated on future collaborations and fortifying ties between the Maldives and China.
