Facility for provision of healthcare for athletes opens at Social Centre

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, on Monday, has opened a special facility at Social Centre specialized in the provision of healthcare for athletes.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Sports Minister Abdulla Rafiu said the inauguration of the facility ensures one of the most basic services required for athletes.

As per the Minister, first aid will be provided at the facility for various injuries sustained by athletes on the turf, which would minimize the risk of permanent damage.

He also highlighted that the facility’s services will not only available athletes, but also to the spectators and the press who are viewing the matches.

Minister Rafiu said the facility is fully resourced at the time of inauguration, including training first aiders who will be based in the facility.

During his speech, the minister also announced that national athletes will have access to therapy three times a week with the new facility.

The development of health service standards required at locations hosting national and international sporting events is a key pledge of President Muizzu’s administration’s first 100-day pledges.

Promoting sports and providing dedicated health care to athletes are also among President Muizzu’s electoral pledges.
