FM Zameer and US Secretary of State Blinken discuss strengthening bilateral partnership

Maldivian Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken have discussed strengthening the existing bilateral partnership between the Maldives and the United States.

The discussions took place during a phone call between the two on Thursday as per the Maldivian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the call, Minister Zameer and Secretary Blinken reflected on the renewed vigor of the bilateral relations between the Maldives and the United States, and discussed on further strengthening the existing bilateral partnership. 

Their discussions centered on a wide range of issues, including defense cooperation, economic development, climate change and adaptation, democratic governance, and the rule of law.

Reiterating the importance of Maldives-US relations, Blinken affirmed the US government's commitment to continue working with the Maldives on shared priorities.

Minister Zameer also conveyed President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration's readiness to work together in this trajectory. He also extended gratitude to the US government for its continued support to the Maldives and for the importance it attaches to enhancing the partnership further.

The US is a close bilateral partner of Maldives and has supported the nation throughout the years including during the COVID-19 pandemic during which they provided vaccines and other medical neccesitties.
