The handover of land for recipients under the former administration’s ‘Binveriya’ scheme recommenced yesterday.

Housing Ministry, in a statement on Wednesday, said the authority will be informing recipients who have yet to sign the land agreement the time and date they need to come in for the signing via calls and SMS.

They also noted mistakes in registries and agreements already handed over will be amended once submitted to the Ministry.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, in a post on X on Tuesday, Housing Ministry will undertake the handover of registries for land and flat owners over the course of this week and next week.

President Muizzu, noting some of the locations at which land plots have been allocated from have not been reclaimed yet, said reclamation works were progressing at a speedy pace. He also announced plans to further reclaim land from Gulhifalhu and Giraavaru for which preparations are underway.

A total of 19,865 individuals are eligible for land under the first phase of former administration’s ‘Binveriya’ scheme. The former administration said 18,955 applicants will receive plots from the land that is currently available, while the remaining 684 applicants receive plots from land that will be added later. They include applicants who are under 25 years of age and are unmarried and childless.

Although the previous administration targeted to hand over the registries before the completion of its term – they had not managed to do so.
