Remand of suspects who lured a person to a guesthouse to rob extended

Three people arrested on suspicions of luring and robbing a person to a guesthouse in Male’ City, by guising it as at the invitation of a woman, have been extended by the Criminal Court on Tuesday.

The suspects in the case have been identified as two Maldivian, aged 21 and 46, and a Maldivian woman, aged 18. All three suspects were remanded in custody for 15 days on December 19th.

Following the expiration of the 15 days – they were presented before the Criminal Court on Tuesday for a hearing to extend the remand. As per the court order, there is sufficient evidence against the three suspects.

Therefore, their remand has been extended by an additional 15 days.

All three suspects are accused of unlawfully holding a person captive, violence and attempted robbery.

The victim in the case had reported to the police of being invited to the guesthouse by the woman.

All three suspects were arrested at the scene of the crime; the guesthouse.

The 21-year-old man arrested in the case has been arrested on 23 occasions before. At the time of his arrest, the 46-year-old man was wearing a necklace belonging to the victim. He also has a criminal record.

The court order also noted that the woman had an arrest record.
