The Maldives and Montenegro have engaged in discussions regarding greater collaboration in various fields, including trade and tourism.
The discussions took place in a meeting between Maldivian Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef and Montenegrin First Deputy Prime Minister Aleska Becic at Gorica Villa on Tuesday.
At the meeting, the VP Hussain thanked Becic for inviting him to Montenegro, and for the warm welcome and generous hospitality extended to him and his delegation.
Highlighting the scope for stronger bilateral ties between Maldives and Montenegro, Hussain suggested avenues for improved ties in tourism, fisheries, trade and investment.
He added that, as small countries, there was much mutual benefit to be gained in stronger collaboration in multilateral forums.
Meanwhile, Becic congratulated the new Maldivian administration on its election victory, and expressed his firm desire to strengthen ties between the two countries.
He also briefed Hussain on the ongoing work in Montenegro to strengthen democracy, and their efforts to attain early membership of the European Union.
At the meeting, VP Hussain briefed Becic on President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration’s foreign policy priorities.
He was accompanied in the meeting by Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu), the Ambassador-at-Large at the Maldivian Foreign Ministry.
Earlier, VP Hussain visited the Parliament of Montenegro, where he was received by Zdenka Popović, the Second Vice President of the Parliament.
Noting VP Hussain’s decade-long experience as a parliamentarian, she congratulated him on his election to office. She also assured the him that the new government of Montenegro is keen on forging closer ties of friendship and cooperation with the Maldives.
VP Hussain thanked her for her hospitality, and exchanged views on areas of mutual interest for the two countries.
VP Hussain is visiting Montenegro on the official invitation of the government, and is meeting with top government officials during his three-day stay in the country.
