MDP alleges government’s negligence in search of Naeesh

Opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has accused the government of negligence in the search for the missing teen from Addu City.

Mohamed Naeesh Nasr, 18, was reported missing to the authorities at 10:45 pm on Thursday, after he ventured into the waters off Gan with two of his friends to catch shrimp.

In a statement expressing concern regarding the search efforts underway to locate Naeesh – MDP said it was extremely concerned that all resources of the state have not been deployed for the search despite over 72 hours having passed since he went missing.

The party also stressed that assistance from nations with long-standing relations is sought for such operations.

Underscoring that Maldives possessed technical resources for such purposes – MDP expressed concern over the non-use of such resources, adding it was unacceptable to prioritize political agenda over the life of a Maldivian citizens.

The party called on the government to utilize all available resources in the Maldives for the search operation.

Their statement comes at a time rumors have surfaced alleging that the Dornier aircrafts operated with the assistance of Indian pilots have not been deployed for Naeesh’s search operation.

Despite a massive search, authorities have yet to find any sign of Naeesh.
