Prosecutor Shafeeu under probe for homosexuality

Maldives Police Service has launched a probe into allegations of engaging in homosexual relations against Prosecutor General’s Office (PG Office)’s prosecutor and spokesperson Ahmed Shafeeu.  

A Police Spokesperson said the allegations, viral on social media, was brought to the authority’s attention following which they have launched a probe.

Allegations accusing Shafeeu of engaging in homosexual relations, backed by photos of him with another man and chatlogs, were publicized on social media this week.

Shafeeu has yet to deny the allegations. Similar allegations have been made against Shafeeu previously, which he back then had denied.

Shafeeu is a senior public prosecutor who continues to undertake official responsibilities as a staff of the PG Office. He serves as a prosecutor in several high-profile cases including that of former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom.
