Discussions have been held between India and Maldives to strengthen cooperation in the area of bilateral security.
Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology in a post on X on Monday said that Indian Ambassador to the Maldives Munu Mahawar, accompanied by the officials from the High Commission, paid a courtesy call to Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan. The officials included first secretaries at the High Commission Kiran Khatri (Project and Commerce) and Karan Yadav (Political) alongside Defense Advisor Captain Deepak Bali.

The Indian High Commissioner has previously called on cabinet ministers of the new administration including Defense Minister Ghassan Maumoon where strengthening bilateral security was also discussed.
High Commissioner Mahawar also met with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on October 4th, before the latter assumed office. The meeting saw discussions on avenues to strengthen relations with the new administration.
President Muizzu has formally requested the Indian government to withdraw its troops in the Maldives. As per the president, the Indian government has agreed to the withdrawal.
