Deadline extended for Japan-funded JDS scholarship

Maldivian students in Japan.

The applications deadline for Japanese Grant Aid for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS Scholarship) has been extended by three weeks.

The original deadline had expired last Sunday.

However, the Higher Education Ministry announced on Tuesday that the deadline has now been extended to 04:00 pm on December 24.

Under this year’s program, Maldivian students will receive six fully-funded scholarships for Master’s Degree programs.

The scholarship covers all course expenses, travel, accommodation, and return ticket.

The JDS Scholarship Program was launched in 2020. Since then, 16 Maldivian students have been awarded scholarships under the program, seven of whom have completed their studies.

Students aged between 24 and 39 as of April 1, 2024 are eligible for the scholarship. Applicants must also have a Bachelor’s Degree accepted by the Maldivian government, and must either be a civil servant, or a permanent employee at an independent institution or a court or related institution. They must also have minimum two years or work experience and must currently be working full time.

Additional information is available on the Higher Education Ministry’s website.
