Former Central Fuvahmulah MP Shifag Mufeedh (Histo) who was serving as the secretary general of the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) resigned from the party and joined People’s National Front (PNF) on Thursday.

Shifag, in a letter to President Muizzu, the leader of PNC, said he was resigning from the party as the words of a specific member have become the regulation of the party.

Shifag, following his resignation, has signed with People’s National Front (PNF); the new political party being formed by former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom.

PNF has officially announced Shifag’s membership.

During Yameen’s administration, Shifag held the posts State Minister for Home Affairs and the Minister Counselor at the Embassy of Maldives in Sri Lanka.

Yameen left the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) – a party he led for years – last week, after the conflict within the PPM-PNC coalition boiled over, just short of a week into President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration.

With Yameen’s son, Zain Abdulla Yameen as its founder, PNF received approval from the Elections Commission (EC), to form the party on Wednesday.
