Elections Commission (EC)’s Chairperson Fuad Thaufeeq states the commission will grant approval to form People’s National Front (PNF), the new political party spearheaded by former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom, tomorrow by the latest.
Fuad gave the assurance after a post by the former chief of staff Ahmed Musthafa on X, appealing to expedite the issuance of approval to form the party.
Fuad, responding on X, said EC received the party’s application form and related documents on Monday afternoon, adding efforts were underway to issue the approval.

We received your application form and documents only yesterday afternoon. We are working on it now. We will issue the approval by tomorrow, insha Allah. https://t.co/TLILHZtRkg
The former president decided to name eight people as founding members of the party; he himself, his son Zain, former vice president Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed, former commissioner of police Hussain Waheed, former chief of staff Ahmed Mustafa, Adlee Ismail, former vice president Dr. Abdulla Jihad, and Ali Adam.
However, the EC’s regulations allow for only one founder to be listed. They therefore decided to pick Zain as the founder.
Yameen left PPM, where he served as the leader, on Thursday night, after the conflict within the PPM-PNC coalition boiled over, just short of a week into President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration.
