HPA: Increased cases of COVID-19 in November compared to the past two months

Health Protection Agency (HPA) states an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases has been observed in November, in comparison to September and October.

HPA’s Spokesperson told Sun on Tuesday that only one case of COVID-19 was reported in September.

As per the Spokesperson, the number of cases increased to nine in October while 10 cases have been reported in November so far.

Despite the increase in the cases reported, the Spokesperson stressed there is no threat of the situation escalating to previous levels. The Spokesperson further noted that HPA will continue to monitor the spread of COVID-19 among other communicable diseases.

A child below the age of five was admitted at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) after contracting COVID-19 on Saturday.

Health professionals advise immunization, social distancing, wearing masks and frequently washing or sanitizing hands as safety precautions against COVID-19.

While six million people across the world have died from COVID-19 – a total of 186,694 cases have been reported by the Maldives with 216 fatalities.
