Zeena Zahir has been appointed as the managing director of Public Service Media (PSM), and Shimad Ibrahim as the managing director of State Trading Organization (STO).

With the appointment, Zeena makes history as the first woman to head the state broadcasting service.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu had announced the appointment earlier this month, in a meeting with local reporters.

Zeena has a Master’s in Business Administration.

She began her journalism career in 2006. She went to work in various publications the next 17 years, and was running her own magazine, Zee Times, prior to Tuesday’s appointment.

Meanwhile, Shimad has worked at the STO for years, including on the company’s board of directors.

He replaces Abdulla Saeed, who was appointed as STO’s managing director in April, after the previous chief Hussain Amr was dismissed over political differences.
