President Solih to attend Muizzu’s inauguration

Parliament Secretariate states outgoing president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will be attending the inauguration ceremony of president-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

Parliament Secretariate’s Communications Director Hassan Ziyau said they have not been informed President Solih will not attend so far.

President-elect Muizzu and vice president-elect Hussain Mohamed Latheef will be sworn in during a special ceremony slated for 4:45pm this evening at the Republic’s Square.

PPM’s leader, former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom, who was invited to the ceremony, declined to attend.

Foreign delegations have arrived in the Maldives to attend the ceremony.

They include Sri Lankan president Ranil Wickremesinghe, Chinese President Xi Jinping’s Special Representative and State Councilor, Shen Yijin, Seychelles’ Vice President Ahmed Afif and South Korean President’s Special Representative, Busan City’s Mayor Park Hiu Jun and Japanese Prime Minister’s Special Representative and Deputy Foreign Minister Komura Masaiso.

As per the Parliament Secretariat, which is organizing the inauguration ceremony, delegations from 46 foreign nations will travel to the Maldives at their invitation.
