Tourist arrivals to Maldives top 1.5 million

Tourism Ministry has announced that tourist arrivals to the Maldives have now surpassed 1.5 million.

Last week, the ministry had estimated that the Maldives would achieve 1.5 million tourist arrivals by the end of October, and hit the 1.8 tourism arrival target by the end of the year.

In a post on X, the Tourism Ministry announced that the 1.5 millionth tourist visited the Maldives on Saturday.

“@MoTmv appreciates the contributions from all the industry stakeholders, especially the investors & employees. Congratulations & Thanks,” added the ministry.

As per the stats released by the ministry, Maldives has seen the arrival of 1,505,366 tourists as of Saturday.

Russia remains the top tourist market to the Maldives with 172,472 arrivals – making for 11.2 percent of the market share. India has moved up to second place with 163,513 arrivals – making for 10.9 percent of the market share. China trails close behind with 163,036 arrivals – making for 10.8 percent of the market share.

  • Switzerland: 29,255 arrivals (1.9 percent)

33 international airlines operate to the Maldives at present.

According to Tourism Ministry, there are 62,868 beds in operation at the moment, registered to 1,272 tourist establishments.
