President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu promised on Tuesday that the upcoming administration, created by the PPM-PNC and its partners, will be one that upholds the sovereignty and the national pride of the Maldives.
In a statement marking the anniversary of the day the Maldives embraced Islam, Muizzu said that his administration will be one that highly prioritizes the Islamic faith and nationalism.
He also promised to raise Maldives’ reputation in the international arena.
Muizzu noted that there’s just three years left until Maldives celebrates nine centuries since it embraced Islam, an event that he described as “a historical event that brought the biggest positive change to the country.”
He said that Maldives’ Islamic faith forms the basis for its independence, rich culture and traditions, and unity.
Muizzu said that the fact that Maldives remains a 100 percent Muslim country, despite the spiritual, economic and strategic challenges of modern times, serves as an example to the world.
He said that what the Maldivian people want is to face such challenges and prioritize their country, above all.
He conveyed well wishes to all Maldivian citizens on the 897th anniversary of the day the Maldives embraced Islam.
