Transition committees note gov't companies' financial issues

Mohamed Firuzul, the spokesperson of the president-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's office holds a press conference on October 9, 2023.

President-elect’s Spokesperson Mohamed Firuzul, on Sunday, said transition committees have taken note of many government companies having their cash flow stuck due to not receiving payment for government projects that they have completed.

Speaking at a press conference today, Firuzul said the transition committees have visited many agencies and held initial meetings to gather information required for the transition process.

He said the meetings showed that the cash flow situation of government companies is in a "difficult state".

“Companies note that their cash flow has been severely hampered due to not having received large sums of money after implementing government projects,” he said.

Firuzul said the companies needed to inject a large amount of money into their cash flow to run the operations for the next two months.

Some private contractors have also complained about delays in receiving payments for government projects. Some such contractors have recently gone on strike as well.

Firuzul also expressed concern about political influence in institutions established to work independently by law.

“The institutions are noting that political influence in their work is making it difficult for them to fulfill their responsibilities as envisaged by the law,” Firuzul said.

He said the companies noted that such influences have made it difficult for the agencies to obtain the necessary budget and resources.
