CP Hameed to retire in November

Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed has announced his decision to retire from police service next month.

In a message to top police officials on Saturday, Hameed said he will be retiring on November 11.

A top police official confirmed receiving the message.

Hameed was not immediately available for comment regarding the decision.

Hameed, who attained his higher education in intelligence, had been dismissed from the police force after the fall of former president Mohamed Nasheed’s administration, on allegations of leaking classified information.

Hameed, married to the sister of First Lady Fazna Ahmed, filed a lawsuit alleging unlawful termination. He won the lawsuit, and was reinstated to the police force after the end of former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s administration.

He was appointed as the Commissioner of Police on March 26, 2019.
