President-Elect Dr Mohamed Muizzu has asked for the cooperation of the People’s Majlis after visiting the Parliament today.
Muizzu, who contested on the PNC ticket, defeated the ruling main party MDP's presidential candidate in Saturday's presidential election.
The President-Elect, Muizzu, officially met with the Speaker of Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed today.
People’s Majlis Media Spokesperson, Hassan Ziyau, spoke with Sun regarding the discussions between Muizzu and Nasheed saying President-Elect Muizzu asked Nasheed for the cooperation of the Parliament in running the government and that Nasheed said that he would fully cooperate with Muizzu.
They also spoke about the swearing-in ceremony during this meeting. Ziyau said that both of them have agreed to proceed with the swearing-in ceremony together.
As per Article 114 of the Constitution, the person who is elected as President and the person who will be the Vice President have to be sworn in at the Parliament before assuming office. Parliament administration said yesterday that they are trying to hold that sitting on Friday, November 17, 2023.
In addition to this, Muizzu signed the guest book during his visit to Parliament.
Along with Muizzu, Hussain Mohamed Latheef, Muizzu’s Vice President, also participated in this meeting. PNC’s leader, Abdul Raheem Abdulla and high-ranking officials of the opposition leadership were present as well.
