President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, underscoring it was the people who granted him the chance to serve the nation, has stated that no one will hold power over him other than the people who elected him.

Speaking at a rally at Social Centre on Monday night with a large number of supporters to commemorate his win in the presidential election – Muizzu said he will lead while free from undue influence from ‘others’, unlike the current administration.

“The people had elected me. I am a server to the people. Therewith, the people will have the power, apart from the Almighty, and I only have the powers that have been bestowed by the people through vote” he said.

Muizzu, who won the election with the backing of opposition leader, former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom, said he would work without discriminating between any citizens. He also added that people will not be dismissed from posts in government offices and state-owned companies, disregarding political posts.

Muizzu, underscoring he has made significant pledges to the people, stressed he will launch efforts to fulfill these pledges at a fast pace. He also said he will only be appointing capable, educated and hardworking individuals who can fulfill their responsibilities to his cabinet and state-owned companies.

“Will see a hardworking team that can do things as I have pledged. People who have my full trust will be appointed to the posts. People who will do as I say. I will be the person saying the last words to each such person,” he said.

He also stressed that his administration would require the cooperation from parliament, where MDP holds super majority, providing assurances of facilitating the entitled chances in line with the characteristics of democracy.

Muizzu noted that he is scheduled to meet Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed on Tuesday.
