PPM has welcomed the decision by the MDA to endorse PPM-PNC’s presidential candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu in the presidential election runoff on September 30.

In a statement on Wednesday, PPM welcomed the decision in the name of its leader, former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and the party’s leadership.

“We, in the name of President Yameen, Dr. Muizzu, running mate Hussain Mohamed Latheef, this coalition’s leadership and ordinary members, welcome MDA’s leader Ahmed Siyam, MDA’s leadership, and all council members, following MDA’s decision to endorse this coalition’s presidential candidate and running mate,” said the PPM.

MDA made the decision to leave the coalition it formed with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and endorse Muizzu, in an emergency council meeting on Tuesday, led by the party’s leader Ahmed Siyam Mohamed.

The decision had passed with the vote of 33 out of 35 members in attendance.

MDA had been PPM’s coalition partner during Yameen’s administration in 2013.
