Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) states efforts are underway to vacate the party’s office and main party centre, located in H. Hurafaage.
PPM’s comment comes at a time when rumors have heightened on social media which claim the party has refused to vacate the premises despite an order from the building’s owner.
The order to vacate the premises came after the resignation of former president Abdulla Yameen Adbul Gayyoom from the party, after disagreements between Yameen and other members of the party’s leadership came to a boil.
Speaking to Sun regarding the matter, PPM’s Spokesperson Heena Waleed denied the rumors on social media, adding efforts were underway to vacate the premises as discussed with the building’s owner.
Former minister Mohamed Maleeh Jameel, who is spearing the efforts to form Yameen’s new party, confirmed to Sun having received information of the change in address of PPM’s office in accordance with the order to vacate.
Meanwhile, membership form filling for Yameen’s new party, People’s National Front (PNF), commenced at the third floor of H. Hurafaage on Sunday night.
Efforts have commenced to seek Elections Commission (EC)’s approval to form PNF, under the names of eight people, with Yameen’s son, Zain Abdulla Yameen as the main founding member.
Maleeh said the party will file for permission to form the party as soon as it finishes criminal record clearance and other administrative formalities; a decision made after discussions with EC earlier today.
