Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has commenced physical works on the land reclamation project in HA. Dhidhdhoo.

The physical works on the project was inaugurated by Defense Minister Mariya Ahmed Didi in a ceremony on Tuesday night.

Acknowledging the shortage of land in Dhidhdhoo, MTCC said it plans on completing the project in one year.

The land reclamation project in Dhidhdhoo – valued at MVR 83.07 million – was contracted to MTCC on July 17.

The project involves construction of a 1,150-meter sand bund wall, reclamation of a 623,968 cubic meter area, and reclamation of a 10,962 cubic meter coastal area.

MTCC will also dig a 916-meter bioswale trench, and install 916-meter geotextiles.

In a visit to Dhidhdhoo in July, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih pledged to reclaim land in the island, and develop an airport and a picnic island there.
