Muizzu: I will increase the salary for every sector

PPM/PNC presidential candidate, Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said that he will increase the salary of employees working in every sector.

Speaking at a campaign rally held in HDh. Nolhivaranfaru last night, Muizzu said that when he said that he will double the salary of soldiers and police officers, some people did not understand how it would be done.

He said that their salary will not be doubled in the first year of his presidency but instead will be gradually increased over the years. He said that their salary will be increased by 35 percent in 2024, 35 percent in 2026, and finally 30 percent in 2028.

However, he said that he will not only increase the salary of soldiers and police officers and that employees of other sectors are also very important.

He said that the employees of all uniformed institutions and civil service employees play the most important role in implementing the policies of any government.

“It includes all uniformed bodies be it customs, corrections, immigration, independent institutions staff, teachers nurses and health service all these sectors are involved in moving this country forward by implementing changes that a government puts forth and continues to work to provide services to people,” Muizzu said.

However, he noted that the employees are not satisfied with the working environment. Many people lose their motivation and leave their jobs because of this, he said.

He said that, in his administration, he will create an environment where people work with care and responsibility, otherwise the country cannot move forward in the true sense.

He said he would bring a positive salary change to employees in all sectors and the details would be announced in the near future.

Muizzu said he would do so after consultation with economic professionals and stabilizing the economy. He also said the country's economy will be developed with the advice of professionals from the economic sector.

“The main goal is to appreciate the work of all workers in developing the country and moving the country forward in the way we want it to,” Muizzu said.

In addition, he noted that the independent institutions are not really independent as of now and that there are political activists in them. 

He said that this would be reformed and the independent institutions would be made truly independent.
