Fire breaks out at Kulhudhuffushi migrant quarters

A fire breaks out in Kulhudhuffushi City on September 16, 2023.

A fire broke out at an accommodation block in Kulhudhuffushi on Saturday, used to house workers in the project to develop 400 housing units in the city.

The fire broke out at around 02:30 pm Saturday.

Kulhudhuffushi councilman Mohamed Daood told Sun that the fire did not result in any injuries.

He said the fire was put out with assistance of the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) in under 30 minutes.

“The fire broke out in a kitchen and accommodation block at the project site of 400 housing units,” he said.

The extent of the damage is unclear at this point.

The project to build 400 housing units in Kulhudhuffushi was contracted to Twenty-Third Metallurgical Construction Group Co, a joint venture of Donbez Pvt. Ltd., in July.

The housing units are 1,000 square feet, with three bedrooms with attached bathrooms, a sitting room, kitchen, dining area, laundry, and store room.
