Young man injured in shark attack off Kulhudhuffushi

A young man from Kulhudhuffushi sustained horrific injuries on Saturday, in a shark attack in the waters off the northern city.

Kulhudhuffushi City’s mayor Mohamed Athif identified the injured man as a 30-year-old native of Kulhudhuffushi.

According to Athif, the man got attacked by a shark while snorkeling to catch fish.

He was rushed to the Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital.

A spokesperson from the hospital told Sun that the man sustained injuries to and around his right shoulder.

In additional to the bite injury, his shoulder also got dislocated in the incident.

The spokesperson said that his condition is stable, and that he has been referred to Dr. Mohamed Waheed, the Maldives’ first and only plastic surgeon.

The hospital is working on transferring him to the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

The police said that the incident wasn’t reported to the agency, but they were aware of the situation.

We are conducting necessary inquiries, said a police spokesperson.
