Former Defence Minister and leader of Maldives National Party (MNP) Colonel Retired Mohamed Nazim has said today that he is the one who wants to free opposition leader and former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom most.
Speaking at AA. Feridhoo today, the first campaign trip he is making after deciding to join PPM/PNC Presidential Candidate Dr Mohamed Muizzu, Nazim said that he does not want any former president to be in prison.
He also said that he doesn't agree with a “haraam sentence” made through selective justice.
“I just want to tell the people who are watching and listening from afar and here that I want President Yameen to be released the most,” Nazim said.
Nazim said he wants to see President Yameen freed and in the participating work of the opposition.
He also called on the government to stop spreading lies and creating fear and unrest among the people who support the opposition.
“So it will be very clear what my stand is on this today,” Nazim said.
He also said that the MNP's top priority is to save the country from the power and state it is in today.
There will be no conditions when an agreement is formed with the opposition coalition, Nazim said.
Nazim, who has 1,907 votes in the first round of the presidential election formed a coalition with PPM and PNC. Nazim was initially in the PPM when he was the Defense Minister of the last government. However, Nazim was jailed by the government on charges of finding a pistol in his house.
Since then, he has played a leading role in the coalition against Yameen's government. He later joined JP.
However, he later left JP and is now conducting political activities under the name of MNP.
